Qatar’s financial sector is undergoing a digital revolution, and the Qatar Central Bank (QCB) is at the forefront of this transformation. In line with the Third Financial Sector Strategy, the QCB recently announced the launch of the Himyan Debit Card, a first-of-its-kind national initiative aimed at boosting digital payments and financial inclusion within the country.

Himyan: A Qatari Brand for a Digital Future

More than just a debit card, Himyan represents a significant step towards a more digital and inclusive financial landscape in Qatar. This Qatari-branded card is not only secure but also boasts several unique advantages. Unlike similar cards in other countries, Himyan is directly linked to a user’s existing bank accounts, offering lower transaction fees for all parties involved – issuers, acquirers, and merchants.

Security and Convenience at Your Fingertips

Himyan prioritizes both security and convenience. The card utilizes cutting-edge technology, featuring smart chip technology and secure PIN codes for added protection. Additionally, Himyan supports contactless transactions, allowing users to make quick and secure payments throughout Qatar. All transactions are processed locally via the national NAPS network, further enhancing security and reliability.

Seamless Transactions Across the Country

Himyan cardholders can enjoy the freedom of conducting various financial transactions with ease. Local bank customers can withdraw cash at any ATM in Qatar, deposit funds at ATMs with cash and cheque deposit functionalities, and make 24/7 payments at all points of sale and online shopping websites within the country. All transactions are facilitated through the secure QPAY payment portal.

Widespread Availability Through Local Banks

Himyan is set to become ubiquitous in Qatar, with major banks like Qatar National Bank, Doha Bank, Masraf Al Rayan, Qatar Islamic Bank, Dukhan Bank, Qatar International Islamic Bank, and Commercial Bank offering the card to their account holders. The initial issuance of the card comes free of charge, making it an even more attractive proposition for potential users.

Qatar’s Digital Transformation Journey

The launch of Himyan reflects Qatar’s commitment to establishing itself as a regional financial hub. Robust financial policies and frameworks have laid the groundwork for this transformation. The Third National Development Strategy, a key pillar of the Qatar National Vision 2030, prioritizes fostering technological innovation across all sectors, with a specific focus on expanding electronic payment channels. Himyan is a testament to this commitment, paving the way for a more secure, convenient, and inclusive financial future for the citizens of Qatar.
