On September 15, 2024, Qatar Museums proudly unveiled its latest public art installation, “Infinity Love,” a striking stainless steel sculpture designed by renowned Qatari artist Bashayer Al-Badr. This new masterpiece, presented as a tribute to Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, is prominently displayed at the Al Shafallah Centre for Persons with Disabilities. The unveiling ceremony was graced by His Excellency Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, alongside Mrs. Maryam Saif Al-Suwaidi, Executive Director of the Shafallah Centre, and other distinguished figures from Qatar Museums and the Qatari government.
“Infinity Love” represents the latest addition to Qatar’s impressive collection of public art, which now exceeds 140 pieces. The sculpture is crafted in the form of Arabic calligraphy, showcasing Al-Badr’s innovative approach to this traditional art form. By intertwining the Arabic letters for “love” (ح haa and ب baa) into the infinity symbol, the artwork eloquently symbolizes both the enduring nature of love and the unity that binds the people of Qatar.
Since 2016, Bashayer Al-Badr has been exploring the potential of Arabic calligraphy in sculpture, creating works that transcend traditional boundaries. “Infinity Love” is a testament to her unique style, which captures the fluidity and emotion of handwritten gestures. This sculpture is not just an aesthetic addition to Al Shafallah Centre but also a heartfelt homage to the unwavering commitment of Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser. For over 25 years, Her Highness has been a steadfast supporter of the Centre, which provides essential services and advocacy for individuals with disabilities in Qatar.
In her statement, Bashayer Al-Badr expressed her honor in being commissioned to create “Infinity Love” specifically for Al Shafallah Centre. She hopes that the sculpture will bring joy and inspiration to the patients, their families, and the dedicated staff, reflecting the same spirit of compassion that Her Highness Sheikha Moza has demonstrated throughout her remarkable tenure.
This new installation is a significant addition to Qatar Museums’ expansive outdoor museum, which continues to enhance the cultural landscape of Qatar through its diverse and thought-provoking public art.
